Warming may reach 1.5°C as early as 2030 and will continue to rise unless we take quick action. Global warming is happening fast! As the caretakers of this planet, only we will determine how warm our Earth will become.
How will water infrastructure services change by 2040? Linked below is a paper and presentation I gave to the Climate Smart Engineering conference in Melbourne in November 2023. The paper looks 10 to 20...
This page includes recommended podcasts to understand what is going on and what you can do about it. I encourage you to explore the podcasts listed here, and feel free to discuss any of...
With an interest to expand my horizons and understand what is happening to our world, I have done a lot of reading in recent years. I encourage you to explore some of the books...
By accounting for the carbon emissions in everything we create or do, we can make progress towards saving this planet. Read about: Motivation for carbon accounting Concrete and cement Steel Carbon-conscious material selection for...
Humans have already caused the greatest mass extinction since the dinosaurs. As humans, we think we have been protecting many of the remaining natural ecosystems from human interference. The warming of the climate will...
As our global climate changes, a country’s wealth and security will be underpinned by its renewable energy resources. As countries implement their carbon emissions strategies, some will look to avoid or reduce production of...
Rice, wheat, maize, and soybean provide two-thirds of human caloric intake. Two degrees Celsius of global mean surface temperature (GMST) warming would result in significant reductions in output from these crops. This is while the global population grows and continues to consume more per capita. Only we will determine how warm our Earth will become. There is still time to save humanity and the world that we know. But we must make choices and implement them quickly.
This blog brings the consequences of continuous economic growth and greenhouse gas emissions together with the engineering that can reduce those emissions or their effects.
Our collective need for continuous economic growth is causing changes to our environment which will have massive impacts on humanity and the ecosystems that we share this planet with.
The planet is warming – at an alarming rate – so much so that we will experience rapid change from this point onwards. But it is not too late to avoid catastrophe. As well as warming, there are many other effects we are having on this planet.
As the caretakers of this planet, only us humans will determine whether life as we know it will continue. There is still time to save humanity and the world that we know – but we must make choices and implement them quickly.
Climate Emergency Kit will identify both effects, and pathways forward. It will also include updates that summarise the consequences of allowing our planet to warm by 2°C or more and measures to decelerate that warming.
Thank you for reading this blog and for the actions you take to save this planet.
I am a Dad, Civil Engineer and a believer in the rapidity of anthropogenic change that this planet has experienced since the advent of the industrial age.
In my professional life I lead planning and engineering design teams for public infrastructure projects, including water pipelines, treatment systems and transportation projects. My 28 years of professional experience has predominantly been in Australia and New Zealand, with projects in the Pacific Islands, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and China.
